Additives for ABS Plastic

ABS Plastic Introduction

ABS is an abbreviation of Acrylonitrile butadiene styrene which chemical formula (C8H8)x· (C4H6)y· (C3H3N)z) is a common thermoplastic polymer.

ABS is a terpolymer made by polymerizing styrene and acrylonitrile in the presence of polybutadiene. The proportions can vary from 15 to 35% acrylonitrile, 5 to 30% butadiene and 40 to 60% styrene.

Key Features: impact resistance, high stiffness, resistance to oil, low temperature and chemical corrosion, electrical performances, easy to process, economic prices.

Main Applications: ABS is widely used in E&E, instruments, automotive, construction and building industries.

Anti-Dripping Agent for ABS Plastic

Anti-dripping agents (ADA) are effective auxiliary flame retardants against dripping during the burning of plastics and polymers. It prevents burning plastic from dripping off and thus meet the requirements of UL 94. The anti-dripping agent is a kind of polymer with a coating on the surface of PTFE particles. The outer coated polymer is generally polyacrylonitrile, polystyrene, and polymethyl methacrylate. Anti-dripping is frequently used in ABS PC alloys and items as table below.

Antioxidant for ABS Plastic

Polymer antioxidants can be added to improve the shelf life of the product or to improve its high-temperature stability. while adding a stability margin during thermal processing. Antioxidant BX AO 1010, BX AO 245, BX AO 168 is used a general purpose Antioxidant for ABS PLASTIC,

Pigment and Dyes for ABS Plastic

Colorants give color to polymers, plastics, coatings, inks, and fiber. Every color we see in our daily life is related to colorants. For industry usage colorants, we offer organic pigments, solvent dyes, fluorescent pigments, and titanium dioxide. In the colorant portfolio, our products are analogs to BASF and other brands.

Things to know when choosing pigment for ABS

1. High heat resistance, weather fastness, and hiding power is required when coloring ABS. The inorganic pigment of titanium dioxide, cadmium, iron oxide red, ultramarine, and carbon dioxide. and organic pigment of phthalocyanine, quinacridone are used.

2. Due to the rubber content in ABS, uneven is an issue when coloring, to offset, a higher concentration of pigment which is normally 2% is used in ABS.

Flame Retardant for ABS Plastic

Combustion could occur when a substance is heated to its flammable temperature in the presence of oxygen. Flame retardants are generally designed to provide a particular level of resistance to ignition or flame spread. This is achieved by suppressing oxygen availability, building up of char at the surface, inhibiting the combustion reaction within the flame area, or by other mechanics.

Brominated flame retardant, BX FR 245, BX FR DBDPE, and antimony trioxide BX FR Sb2O3 are used together as halogen flame retardants for PBT.

Impact Modifiers for ABS Plastic

Impact Modifiers are substances that increase the durability of molded or extruded plastics, especially those that need to be constantly subjected to impact forces like cold weather. They are added to compounded materials to provide performance features. They provide strength and break resistance to the product for which they are added. They also provide rigidity to the product to prevent it from wrapping or sagging during everyday use. AS, ABS high rubber powder like HR181 are used for ABS Plastic as impact modifiers.

Lubricant for ABS Plastic

Lubricants are a kind of additive used to improve the processing and appearance of polymers. The function of lubricants is to reduce friction, improve fluidity and mold release during resin or compound processing, and increase the surface smoothness of products. EBS, PETS can be used as lubricant for ABS PLASTIC.

Optical Brightener for ABS Plastic

Optical brighteners are used to mask yellow or increase the whiteness of plastics, inks, coatings, paper, and fiber. OB1 and OB can be used in ABS PLASTIC as optical brighteners.

UV Stabilizer for ABS Plastic

UV stabilizers contain two types of light stabilizers: Ultraviolet Light Absorbers (UVA) and Hindered-Amine Light Stabilizers (HALS), used individually or as blends. UVA filters harmful UV light and helps prevent color change and delamination of coatings, adhesives, and sealants. HALS trap free radicals once they are formed and are effective in retaining surface properties such as gloss and preventing cracking and chalking of paints. The combination of these two families is highly synergistic. UV absorber BX UV P. BX UV 770 can be used in ABS plastic as UV Stabilizer additives. ABS light-color products are not recommended for outdoor applications.
