Main application of laser additive in plastics

Laser marking for security & container seals

These seals are made of polypropylene or ABS plastics, and can white or different color. They are used in clothing, shoes, also other goods, for marking, recording functions. So does in container seals, seals are one-off, while laser marking is necessary for plastic seals. . Laser marking creates permanent barcodes, logos, and sequential serial numbers directly on the seal body. Seals require fast laser marking while same time cost-sensitive, BX LASER 8208B and BX LASER 8208C is developed for this application.

Laser marking for tpu ear tags in livestock industry

Thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) is widely used in industrial settings to create durable, shockproof, and waterproof protective eartags. TPU ear tags in farming can enhance livestock management. TPU plastics ear tags cas resist extreme weather, UV damage, and cracking in freezing temperatures. Farmers use them for visual identification, RFID tracking, and health monitoring.

Most tpu ear tags are in yellow or red color and requires black laser marking, with high contrast. BX LASER 8208 is designs for this purpose, dosage can be 2-5% while minimum negative effects to the color. So user can without concerns and additional job on color matching.

Laser marking for POM embedding cassettes box in medical industry

Embedding cassettes (also known as tissue processing cassettes) are molded plastic laboratory containers used to hold tissue samples safely during histological processing and embedding. They are in light color including white, pink, light blue, light green, which makes it very sensitive to laser makring‘s color. BX LASER 8208U aim to set the industrs’ highest standard, and does not bring color to embedding cassettes even at high loading.

Laser marking for TPE/TPU/PVC in wire/cable industry

Laser marking provides a permanent, ink-free solution for the high-speed wire and cable industry. Unlike inkjet printing or hot foil stamping, which fade, smudge, or scratch off during installation and environmental exposure, laser marking alters the polymer matrix directly. laser marking guarantees lifelong readability for tracking codes, compliance metrics, and logos. Baoxu laser marking for wire and cable with following features,

  • Clear and durable marks.
  • High precision and high resolution.
  • Abrasion resistance and acid and alkali resistance.
  • High speed laser marking

Laser marking for PC/PA/PBT in automotive & Electronic industry

Electronic products like AC adapter, charger, converter requires clear marking, with letters and logos on it. These products are often made of PA/PBT/PC or its alloys, with or without glass fiber filled, halogen or halogen-free flame retardant inside. These components bring challenges to laser marking, as heavy melt laser marking additive reacts with flame retardants, and glass fiber weaken laser marking effect.

Laser marking for transparent plastics

Transperent plastics like PMMA, PC, transparent ABS, transparent nylon, transparent  PP, also requires laser marking. Laser marking additive for these applications requires a balance of laser marking effect and transparency. BX lasergreen and BX LASER 8208T can be used in these application.

Laser marking in plastic food packaging

Plastics parts like lid, caps, liner for water and beverages, these application requires food contact, heavy melt free, also minimum color negative effect. BX LASERGREEN 40mb is designed for this sensitive application.

Things to know about laser marking additives

1. The effect of the laser marking result depends on various factors. In addition to the laser marking additive itself, other additives and colorants, the quality of the laser marking machine, and the machine’s parameter settings all play critical roles. Customers may need to conduct comprehensive testing to identify the optimal laser marking solution.
2. Glass fibers or glass beads do not significantly affect the laser marking quality.
3. For marking white on black plastics, it is recommended that the total carbon black content does not exceed 0.6% of the resin weight, excessive carbon black can impair laser marking performance.
4. Flame retardants significantly diminishes marking quality and clarity, therefore, the proportion of laser marking additive in the formulation must be increased.
6. Generally, marking black on white Plastics relies on the plastic carbonizing and turning black due to high heat, requiring low-power and low-frequency machine settings. Conversely, marking black on white effect relies on the material foaming under high heat; these micro-bubbles rise to the surface and lighten the color, creating a light-colored mark. We recommend using higher power settings to achieve the desired white marking effect.
